"Rolldabeats's DJ eXtreme presents "A Decade In The Mix" part one - the first mix of a four part series; parts 2, 3 & 4 featuring RDB's Haste, Phokus and The Manipulator.
Rolldabeats began life in late 2001 as tarzan.spoox.org, an online database of site creator Thijs's record collection. Over time, the site expanded as more and more releases and artists' details were catalogued. The site quickly became an essential resource for DnB fans wanting accurate and up to date information. As the site got more and more hits it was decided that a re-vamp was needed to make it easier to use and to allow inclusion of all the extra information that the RDB team were busy gathering.
Feb 2005 saw the launch of rolldabeats.com, a much improved Tarzan but still based on the simple design and powerful search features that the original site did so well. A team of moderators were now on board to help look after the busy forums, all of whom are avid music collectors and had already been heavily involved up to that point. Haste also joined Thijs to help run the site on a day to day basis.
Now in 2006 RDB can only go from strength to strength. The list of extra features that the team are planning to add is increasing at an alarming rate and with the recent introduciton of the MyRDB feature the site is becoming more and more popular with the online DnB community
Drum & Bass is a truly unique musical genre. Compared to other styles of music, electronic or otherwise, Drum & Bass is in its infancy. Several times over the course of 15 years, this music has changed course sharply, in everything from its tempo to its purpose. Ten years ago, it was jungle, chopped up breaks, heavy bass, and ganja smoke punctuated the form. Three years before that, it was hardcore -- throbbing beats, uplifting pianos, and ecstacy pills defined the genre.
To fully capture the breadth of these styles, and to underscore their relationship under the umbrella of Drum & Bass, we bring you "A Decade in
the Mix"- a rolldabeats presentation of the evolution of this sound."
